Upon this blasted heath you stop our way
… the title of this exhibition is taken from a scene of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. In this scene the witches meet and tell eachother what they have been up to since they last saw eachother.
To gather always requires energy. It does not simply happen. What togetherness asks can be hard to name. It is not a fixed state but something continuously created, through repetition, through shared attention, through the ordinary effort of showing up. Community built through everyday gestures survives, if only as memory, as traces of atmospheres and encounters.
Across our languages, the word togetherness carries movement and intention within it. In Old English, tōgædere means going toward a common point. In German, zisamane once meant “in one place.” In Armenian, միասնություն holds the root մի, one, suggesting many becoming one through connection. And the Polish word razem holds within it raz, once, a single time, as if togetherness is not a condition but an event, something that briefly aligns and then dissolves. In Japanese, 一期一会 (ichigo ichie) names this precisely: an encounter, right now, will never come around again. These meanings sit in tension with each other: togetherness as direction and intention, and togetherness as something always already passing.
The exhibition brings together a group of international artists who first met during a residency in Kalbe, Germany in 2025. What grew between them was not just given by circumstance but built through the ordinary effort of being present with others. Now, one of those artists opens her city, Kraków, to the group. The gathering continues, on new ground, in a place that is home to one and foreign to the rest.
Each artist brings something different with them: their work, acts of gathering itself, dinners, workshops, or simply shared time in the same space with the visitors. Over five days, the exhibition becomes a site of encounter.
